Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Crazy In Love February 17, 2006

They strolled arm in arm, hugged each other, smiled for the cameras and he repeatedly patted her bump.
Contrary to widespread rumours, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were letting it be known that they are very much together.
‘Sunlit stroll‘
The couple, on a brief visit to Australia, made the most of Sydney Harbour’s attractions with a sunlit stroll by the waterside, signing autographs for fans.
They then boarded a yacht owned by Cruise’s friend, the media tycoon Jamie Packer, where 27-year-old Miss Holmes spent much of her time with her arms wrapped round her grinning 43-year-old fiancé.
Sources close to the couple said that, at seven months pregnant, Miss Holmes had been expected not to make the trip from Los Angeles for a state memorial service to Packer’s father Kerry.
‘Separate bedrooms’
But after an American magazine claimed their relationship was a sham and that they slept in separate bedrooms, she had a sudden change of heart.
“They looked like a couple very much in love,” said a fan. “Tom kept patting Katie’s bump and couldn’t stop telling everyone how excited he was. If their relationship is on the rocks, it certainly didn’t show.”
Their spokesman described the latest gossip as “100 per cent false”, adding: “Mr Cruise and Ms Holmes are still engaged and are moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child.
“Despite the malicious fallacies put forth, the couple is looking forward to a long and happy life together as a family.”

Generous superstar Jennifer Lopez is urging New Yorkers of Hispanic descent to donate bone marrow in a bid to save the life of a young Latina suffering from blood cancer.
The Maid in Manhattan actress is desperate to save 29-year-old Janet Ovalles, and is harnessing her celebrity power to inspire potential donors.
A transplant is Ovalles’ only chance of survival, according to concerned doctors at bone marrow donor center DKMS.
She says, “I am a young Hispanic woman, so is Janet. I could empathize with her situation so much.”
DKMS spokeswoman Katharina Harf says, “It’s been very hard to recruit Hispanic bone marrow donors, but with Jennifer’s help we really feel we can get the Hispanic community on board.”
Ovalles is delighted by Lopez’s concern, but insists only a matching donor has the power to save her: “I am a walking time bomb. If I don’t find a donor, I will die.”

Tom Cruise is threatening to sue acclaimed biographer Andrew Morton after discovering he has hired a gay porn star to shed light on his private life.Morton, who famously collaborated with Diana, Princess of Wales to pen an account of her life, has hired Los Angeles private investigator and former gay adult actor Paul Baressi to probe on-going speculation the Top Gun hunk is gay.
Baressi has reportedly already given Morton letters from Cruise’s attorney insinuating the star enjoyed a homosexual liaison while shooting Eyes Wide Shut in the UK.
Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields is quick to rubbish the story: “I wrote a letter to Mr. Morton back in November and said he obviously was entitled to write the book but ‘make sure you check your facts’.
“If he tries to use my letter to create the impression that Mr. Cruise did have a gay affair, we will certainly sue… because the story is false. Mr. Cruise is not gay.”

American Idol beats the Grammy Awards with viewers February 13, 2006

There’s humbling news for professional musicians such as Madonna and U2: By a wide margin, TV viewers prefer the amateurs.
Nearly twice as many people — 28.3 million — watched American Idol than watched the Grammy Awards — 15.1 million — when the two music programs went head-to-head in prime time Wednesday, according to Nielsen Media Research.
In Canada, 2.7 million viewers tuned in for Idol on CTV, versus 1.4 million for the Grammys on Global, CTV said.
In part because of the American Idol competition, it was the least-watched Grammy Awards in Nielsen records dating back to the 1970s.
It certainly wasn’t what CBS, Grammy producers or the struggling music industry anticipated after packing the show with star-studded performances. Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z and Christina Aguilera all performed and the show also featured a colourful appearance by reclusive star Sly Stone.
Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., when the Grammys competed with American Idol, the awards show featured Madonna, John Legend, Coldplay and U2 — with the Irish rock band’s duet with Mary J. Blige arguably the evening’s most thrilling moment.
After Idol went off the air, the Grammys picked up a little steam. For its full 3 1/2 hours, the Grammy Awards’ average viewership was 17 million people.
Before this week, the least-watched Grammy telecast was in 1995, when the show was watched by 17.2 million people. Last year’s show was seen by 18.8 million people, with 26.3 million viewers in 2004.
Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson won two Grammys, but didn’t mention the Fox show in her tearful acceptance speeches.
The music pros can take a little comfort in at least slowing American Idol. It was the first time in seven telecasts this season Idol was seen by fewer than 30 million.

U2 upstages Mariah Carey at Grammy Awards February 9, 2006

The veteran Irish rock band U2 captured the limelight Wednesday night at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, winning five awards and overshadowing the comeback story of the evening, Mariah Carey, and the producer-turned-rapper Kanye West. Grammy voters, for the first time, honored a contestant on the Fox television smash “American Idol,” granting that populist phenomenon a measure of acceptance from the musical establishment. Kelly Clarkson, the winner on the show’s first season, won best pop vocal album for her second album, “Breakaway” (RCA), and best female pop vocal performance — beating Carey — for the hit single “Since U Been Gone.” U2 took home two of the most prestigious Grammys, album of the year for “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” (Interscope) and song of the year for “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own.” Bono, the group’s lead singer, said the album was largely a rumination on his often difficult relationship with his father. “He was the atomic bomb in question,” he said, while accepting the song of the year award. Britney sets bad example for parents February 9, 2006

When my wife and I had our first child about 18 months ago, it was a moment filled with every positive emotion known to man — and a little bit of fear. I barely knew how to change a diaper. How was I possibly going to keep our baby safe from harm? Fortunately, the hospital helped by making sure we were at least prepared to make that first trip home safely. We could not take the little guy with us until our car seat had been checked, double-checked and properly certified. The doctors had no idea whether we were bringing him home to a mansion or a shelter, or feeding him infant formula or cold pizza, but they made sure that he would be transported safely to wherever we were going. There’s a reason why that’s emphasized so much: Car seats save lives. Of course, for them to be effective, you have to actually use them.

Dave Chappelle Comes Clean On ‘Oprah’ February 5, 2006

Dave says he left his show because he was ‘incredibly stressed out.’
Months after he walked off the set of his show last year — bringing production to a crashing halt amid rumors of drug problems, writer’s block and spiritual crisis — Dave Chappelle has finally given an in-depth interview about what happened.
On Friday (February 3), he appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and said he still wants to do his show. “I don’t want the money, I don’t want the drama. I just want to do my show again.”
But before that can happen, he said, he has a few conditions, like creating a “proper working environment” and finding a way to “unload the money” in a more socially responsible way, so that it goes to people who have supported him instead of those who he feels exploited him. “If I give the money back to people who suffered in Katrina,” he started, before Oprah interrupted him to remind him that he was on national television and shouldn’t promise to give away the money if he didn’t mean it. “I didn’t say I was going to — I’m just saying I want to,” he said. Anderson tops Fox talent deals February 2, 2006

Anthony Anderson has inked a talent holding deal with Fox Broadcasting Co.
As the pilot casting season is picking up speed, the network also has lined up Jay Baruchel, Ben Feldman and Kristin Lehman with talent deals.
All four are expected to star in Fox pilots targeted for fall.
“These are actors that I think have a Fox kind of feel,” Fox executive vp casting Marcia Shulman said. “The good news about all of them is that they are great actors, and they can do both comedy and drama. Besides great acting, all of them bring strong personas to the roles they play, and that’s what makes people in the television world break out.”
The deal with Anderson comes on the heels of the actor’s strong performance as gang lord Antwon Mitchell on FX’s “The Shield” last season and of his Image Award-nominated turn in the feature “Hustle & Flow.”
He next appears in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”
Baruchel, who got his big break as the star of Fox’s critically acclaimed series “Undeclared,” got on Shulman’s shortlist of actors to pursue after she saw him in the indie “Fetching Cody” at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
On the feature side, Baruchel is in line to co-star in the comedic drama “Fanboys” (HR 2/1). He most recently starred in the WB Network drama “Just Legal.”
Feldman also most recently starred in the WB series “Living With Fran.”
Lehman played one of the leads in Fox’s drama “Killer Instinct” earlier this season. She also had a role on CBS’ “Judging Amy.”

James Bond producers are still looking for a new Bond girl even though latest 007 adventure, Casino Royale, has already started shooting in Prague, Czech Republic. Pre-production on the film started last week without two key ingredients – a leading lady and a villain. Crash writer/director Paul Haggis, who is writing the script for actor Daniel Craig’s first outing as superspy Bond, let slip about the lack of a Bond girl during a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. He says, “They’re talking to three to four girls right now. Every week I read that there’s a new Bond girl, and I call them (the filmmakers) and they say, ‘No, you idiot.’” Haggis’ announcement comes weeks after former Miss Italy Caterina Murino lost out on the chance to play 007’s latest love interest. She’ll play a smaller role in the new film. Angelina Jolie, Rachel McAdams and Thandie Newton have all been considered for the role of sexy Vesper Lynd in the new Bond movie.

Spielberg Responds to Jewish Backlash February 2, 2006

Director Steven Spielberg has leaped to the defense of his latest movie Munich, after fundamentalist Jews attacked the Oscar-nominated film for allowing the Palestinian side of the story to be portrayed. Munich, which is up for five Academy Awards next month, tells the based-on-fact story of the murder of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the retribution by Israel’s secret service Mossad. Jewish Spielberg insists the film is an unbiased portrayal of the horrific events and hopes the movie will act as a “prayer for peace” in the troubled Middle Eastern region. He says, “The Jewish community, have grown very angry at me for allowing the Palestinians simply to have dialogue and for allowing (screenwriter and frequent critic of Israeli policies) Tony Kushner to be the author of that dialogue. Munich never once attacks Israel, and barely criticizes Israel’s policy of counter-violence against violence. It simply asks a plethora of questions. It’s the most questioning story I’ve ever had the honor to tell. For that, we were accused of the sin of moral equivocation. Which, of course, we didn’t intend – and we’re not guilty of.” In December, Jewish author Jack Engelhard attacked the film, saying, “Spielberg is no friend of Israel. Spielberg is no friend of truth.”
